The 3rd Citizen Science Event

The 3rd Citizen Science Event of our CARESEA Project was held on 21 January 2026 at Artvin Çoruh University with broad participation. During the event, participants were first informed about the current state of microplastic pollution worldwide and in Türkiye by the project team members; Project Coordinator in Türkiye Prof. Dr. Kadir Seyhan, Prof. Dr. Nigar Alkan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koray Özşeker, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yahya Terzi. Subsequently, the winter season results of the measurements conducted in the Çoruh Basin were evaluated.
The meeting was also attended by Dr. Izolda Matchutadze, the CARESEA Project Coordinator from Batumi Shota Rustaveli University. This event represents a first of its kind in the Eastern Black Sea Region and along the border, as it brought together stakeholders aged 7 to 70.
In addition, a survey study was conducted during the event. The survey results obtained from a total of 50 participants will be analyzed comparatively with the results of two events held in Fındıklı and the survey study conducted in the Çoruh Valley in Batumi. The findings are planned to be published in a scientific journal, and this activity will constitute the first cross-border initiative of its kind in the entire Black Sea Region.
