"Smart Cities and Cadastre" Panel Held at Our University
The "Smart Cities and Cadastre" panel, organized by the Department of Geomatics Engineering of Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) in collaboration with the Trabzon Branch of the Chamber of Survey and Cadastre Engineers, took place with a high level of participation.
The opening of the panel was attended by Trabzon Governor Aziz YILDIRIM, Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin GENÇ, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, Director General of Land Registry and Cadastre Hakan GEDİKLİ, former KTU rectors Prof. Dr. İbrahim ÖZEN, as well as representatives from public institutions, local governments, academicians, and students.
The event, held in the Erdoğan Özbenli Amphitheater of the KTU Department of Geomatics Engineering, began with an opening cocktail, a classical music performance, followed by a moment of silence and the Turkish national anthem.
Rector Çuvalcı Emphasizes Smart Cities
In the opening program, Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, who welcomed the participants, emphasized the importance of the concept of smart cities for today's urban environments. Reminding that universities have the responsibility to produce knowledge and develop research that meets the needs of practitioners, Çuvalcı stated: "Smart cities are a significant urban development vision that transforms the dynamics of cities in areas such as energy efficiency, public safety, transportation, and health, by utilizing information technologies."
Prof. Dr. Yalçınkaya: "We Aim to Raise Awareness"
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Mualla YALÇINKAYA, Head of the Department of Geomatics Engineering at KTU, referred to the department's 60-year legacy and expressed pride in the success of its graduates. Yalçınkaya summarized the goal of the panel with the following words: "By addressing the concept of smart cities, which is a multidisciplinary field, we aim to raise awareness." Yalçınkaya also highlighted that cities have complex and multi-layered structures and pointed out the difficulties of solving problems such as traffic, health, waste management, drinking water, and planning through traditional methods. "At this point, the concept of smart cities gains great importance," she stated.
New Technologies and Future Vision Discussed at the Panel
Following the opening speeches, the panel commenced with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Tahsin YOMRALIOĞLU from Istanbul Technical University. In his presentation titled "Innovative Opportunities in Smart Cities," he focused on the opportunities presented by new technologies for smart cities. He provided information to the participants about making cities more sustainable and livable, simplifying land registry and cadastre processes, and innovations offered by digitized systems.
Director General of Land Registry and Cadastre Hakan GEDİKLİ gave a detailed presentation on the institution's future goals and projects in his speech titled "The Future Vision of Land Registry and Cadastre."
A Platform for Knowledge Exchange
The panel provided an important platform for knowledge exchange among sector professionals, academicians, and students. Participants had the opportunity to discuss current developments and innovative approaches in the fields of smart cities and cadastre.
