The Advisory Board Meeting of our University's Landslide Application and Research Center (Landslide UYGAR) took place on December 19, 2023, in the Rectorate Senate Hall. Trabzon Governor Mr. Aziz YILDIRIM, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, our Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Ä°brahim OKUMUÅž, representatives from Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality and Ortahisar Municipality, Director of Istanbul Technical University Disaster Management Institute Prof. Dr. Mikdat KADIOÄžLU, Chamber Presidents affiliated with the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), Members of the Executive Board of Directors of KTU Landslide UYGAR, representatives from public institutions and organizations, and our academics attended the meeting. The activities of the Landslide Application and Research Center for the academic year 2022-2023 were evaluated at the meeting.

In the keynote speech of the meeting, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI addressed the effects of natural disasters in our region, especially in our province, and the significant efforts of our University in this regard. Following the Rector's speech, Trabzon Governor Mr. Aziz YILDIRIM, in his speech, emphasized the importance of inter-institutional cooperation in reducing the impact of natural disasters. Mr. YILDIRIM particularly highlighted the necessity of collaborative projects, especially under the leadership of universities, to address this issue.

After the protocol speeches, the Center's Director, Prof. Dr. Arzu FIRAT ERSOY gave a presentation on the one-year activities of the Landslide Application and Research Center. The presentation provided detailed information about KTU supported projects, university-public projects, university-industry projects, and contracted R&D projects carried out within the Research Center. The presentation covered the "Disaster Awareness Campaign" initiated by the Center, which included face-to-face training sessions in primary schools and "Expert-Student Meetings" that involved educating university students. Additionally, the presentation discussed projects planned for the year 2023-2024 following discussions and meetings with public institutions in collaboration with Landslide UYGAR.

In the meeting chaired by Trabzon Governor Mr. Aziz YILDIRIM, the activities of all institutions and their expectations from the Landslide Application and Research Center were discussed. The meeting also resulted in decisions, including the preparation of a project related to areas prone to disasters in collaboration with relevant public institutions under the responsibility of our University, the creation of 3D models based on simulation for scenarios of dam collapses in our region, the formulation of Trabzon's land use plan, and the organization of a workshop in April 2024 related to the subject.
