Power, Energy and Control Research Group
Welcome to the POWENCON Research Group, established in 2008. Based within the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University, POWENCON is an innovative research group and center dedicated to conducting internationally recognized research in power systems, energy conversion, intelligent control algorithms, autonomous systems, and cybersecurity. It also aims to establish strong and sustainable bridges between academia and industry.
The POWENCON Research Group laboratory is not merely a facility that produces technical knowledge; it is also an institutional research environment built upon scientific rigor, academic integrity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a culture of reproducible research. By leading national and international projects, this structure invites its researchers to develop solutions that will shape the future of energy and control technologies.

R&D Laboratory Coordinator: Prof. Dr. Emre Özkop (https://avesis.ktu.edu.tr/eozkop)
Address: Laboratory Number ELK-205
Vision
Founded in 2008, the POWENCON Research Group aims to be an innovative research center that brings industry and academia together by conducting international standard research in power systems, energy conversion, intelligent control algorithms, autonomous systems, and cybersecurity; leading national and international projects.
Core Values
• Honesty and Integrity: Academic honesty and transparency are essential in all kinds of research activities.
• Inclusivity: Everyone in the laboratory is treated with equal dignity and opportunity, regardless of gender, nationality, academic background, or personal beliefs.
• Collaboration: The most powerful tool in scientific progress is a mature culture of cooperation rather than individual work.
• Reproducibility: All research is documented and conducted in a way that can be replicated by others.
• Continuous Development: Every researcher is actively supported in expanding their expertise and achieving their career goals.
Context in the Field
These laboratories serve academicians and researchers working in fields such as power electronics, smart grids, renewable energy systems, control theory, energy storage, autonomous systems, cybersecurity, and sustainability. Research activities include graduate thesis studies, national projects (TÜBİTAK, BAP), international projects (Horizon Europe, bilateral collaborations), and industry partnerships.
