Spring Breeze on KTU Radio: The Turkic World Celebrates Nowruz

KTU Radio studios celebrated the arrival of spring and the symbol of brotherhood, Nowruz, with a special program titled "Footsteps of Spring: Nowruz." Organized by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tane Vergili, KTU Deputy Coordinator of the International Relations and Coordinator of the Office of International Student Affairs, the program brought together students from various regions of the Turkic world to share their unique cultural traditions.

Opening the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tane Vergili emphasized the unifying power of Nowruz, stating that such events enhance cultural interaction within the university. Representing their respective countries, the participating students discussed celebration rituals, local flavors, and the historical significance of the festival:

  • Azerbaijan: Meryem Babayeva, a 3rd-year Management Information Systems student, described the tradition of the "seven-flavor table" and the custom of jumping over fire.
  • Kazakhstan: Mair Selchuk, a 2nd-year Energy Engineering student, spoke about how the arrival of spring is greeted with great enthusiasm in Kazakh culture.
  • Kyrgyzstan: Nurislam Sovetov, a 1st-year Computer Science student, provided insights into traditional games and social solidarity in Kyrgyzstan.
  • Turkmenistan: Ogulnur Seyidova, a 2nd-year History student, shared the sacred importance the Turkmen people place on Nowruz from a historical perspective.
  • Uzbekistan: Laziz Hamidov, a 2nd-year English Language and Literature student, brought the joy of the holiday and specific Uzbek Nowruz dishes to the listeners.

Throughout the live broadcast, messages of friendship and brotherhood were shared. The students expressed that KTU is not just an educational home for them, but a common roof where diverse cultures blend together. The program, which featured music and sincere conversation, concluded with wishes for Nowruz, the harbinger of spring, to bring peace and tranquility to the entire world.
