KTU Achieves a Major Leap in the 2026 QS Sustainability Rankings

Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) has achieved remarkable success in the 2026 Sustainability Rankings announced by QS, compared to last year. While our university ranked in the 1450s worldwide in 2024, it has managed to climb approximately five hundred places this year, placing itself in the 1000s band. KTU, which ranked 29th nationwide last year, strengthened its national position this year by rising to 23rd place in Türkiye.
Progress in Environmental Impact
KTU, which received a rather limited score in environmental sustainability studies last year, showed a significant improvement in this area in 2026. Thanks to the expansion of environmental management and green campus practices, the increase in sustainability-focused projects, and the strengthening of environmental education activities, our university has risen well above its previous year’s level. A particularly notable improvement has been recorded in the area of environmental research, driven by the increase in international publication volume and the diversification of projects.
Rise in Social Impact
One of the most noteworthy developments for KTU in the 2026 rankings occurred in the social impact category. In this field, where visibility was limited last year, our university received a strong evaluation this year in terms of social equity, knowledge sharing, and the societal impact of educational outcomes. The strong performance in the knowledge exchange indicator, in particular, demonstrates that KTU plays an active role in academia–industry collaborations and regional development processes. The evaluation received under the health and well-being criterion stands out as a positive reflection of the support mechanisms established for students and staff.
A Strong Institutional Line in Governance
The results achieved by our university in the governance category show that the transparency, accountability, and institutional ethics policies implemented by KTU in recent years have developed in alignment with international standards. Progress in this field is considered an important component of the sustainable university goal.
