The IASON+ Project's Ecosystem Services Summer School held in Samsun Kızılırmak Delta Area

The IASON+ Project Summer School, organised by the Department of Marine Sciences and Technology Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ), was held in Samsun between 22 and 28 September 2025.

The programme focused on the effects of invasive alien species and climate change on the delta ecosystem services.

The event was attended by academics, experts, stakeholders, and students from Turkey, Romania, Ukraine, Georgia, and Greece.

• 22 September – Progress was shared at project partner meetings.

• 23 September – A Steering Committee meeting was held to discuss project management and cooperation, also the first group stakeholder meetings

• 24 September – The second group stakeholder meetings commenced; the formation and ecosystem structure of the Kızılırmak Delta and its legal framework under NATURA 2000 were addressed.

• 25 September – Participants took part in a field visit to observe different ecosystem services in the Kızılırmak Delta.

• 26 September – Second group stakeholder meetings.

• 27 September – Workshops were organised for young participants, offering students the opportunity to examine the delta from a scientific perspective.

• 28 September – A forum was held featuring interactive discussions, including young participants, focusing on the impact of invasive alien species on ecosystem services.

The programme concluded with a certificate ceremony. The IASON+ Summer School was considered an important step in promoting scientific cooperation and student education on invasive species and climate change in the Black Sea deltas.
