Enrollment

The enrollment process for incoming exchange students at Karadeniz Technical University is managed by the International Relations Office. This process usually takes place 1-2 weeks before the course registration period, aligning with the official start of the academic year. Upon completion of enrollment, students are granted access to the Student Information System (BYS), provided with a university email account, and issued a unique student identification number.

Student Enrollment Certificate

Also known as a "student letter" or "öğrenci belgesi" in Turkish, this document can be obtained from the Student Affairs Office (Öğrenci İşleri Dairesi). It contains vital information about your academic program at KTU, including your department/faculty, the duration of your studies, and your student number. Be sure to take note of key details, particularly your student number (öğrenci numarası), as it will be needed for all your academic activities.

Obtaining a Tax ID Number

Obtaining a tax identification number is an essential step for various administrative and official processes in Türkiye, including opening a bank account at certain banks or arranging health insurance. This number also plays a key role in completing tasks prior to receiving your residence permit, as it serves as an official identifier required by many institutions. Opening a Bank Account

Required Documents to Open a Bank Account.

When applying to open a bank account, banks typically request specific information and documents. With the completion of these documents, it is possible to easily create a bank account. The documents required for opening a bank account are as follows: 

  • Valid Passport: Must not be older than 10 years. Alternatively, a valid residence permit can be used, if applicable.
  • Foreigner?s ID Number or Tax ID Number:
    • The Foreigner?s ID Number is issued by civil registration offices under the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Interior.
    • The Tax ID Number is issued by tax offices under the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Finance.
  • Proof of Valid Residence Address in Türkiye:
    Acceptable documents include a recent (within the last three months) copy of an electricity, water, natural gas, or phone bill in your name from a Turkish service provider. Alternatively, the address printed on your passport may be used, if applicable.

Attention: If you are unable to provide a valid passport or residence permit, an official document validating your national ID, issued and approved by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Finance, may be accepted.

Bank ATMs on Campus

VakıfBank and Ziraat Bank offices are conveniently located on the Kanuni Campus of Karadeniz Technical University (KTU)

KTU provides easy access to ATMs for many major banks, available for both students and staff.

For Exchange Students

Remember to obtain your Tax ID Number in advance. And, please notify the KTU Erasmus Office about your intention to open a bank account for further assistance.

Residence and Work Permit

The Directorate General of Immigration Management (Göç İdaresi Genel Müdürlüğü), operating under the Ministry of Interior, is the official governmental authority responsible for residence permits in Türkiye.

All internaitonal staff and students planning to stay in Türkiye for more than three months (90 days) are required to apply for a residence permit, regardless of their nationality. Applicants must ensure they submit their residence permit application within the legal timeframe allowed after entering Türkiye. For example, if you hold a one-month visa or are exempt from a visa, you must apply for the residence permit within that one-month period. For residence permit extensions, the application process should be initiated at least two months (60 days) before the current permit expires.

Obtainig an E-Devlet Password

The E-Devlet (E-Government) platform offers an online gateway to a variety of services provided by various government institutions in Türkiye. To obtain an E-Devlet password, you must visit a PTT (Post Office) branch with the following documents:

  • A valid passport
  • Your residence permit
  • An active Turkish mobile phone number
