A Career Event Building Bridges Between Our Students and the Industry Held at Our University

The Career Days event, organized by the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of our Faculty of Marine Sciences in Sürmene and the Naval Architecture and Marine Technologies Club, was held with strong participation at the Prof. Dr. Osman Turan Culture and Congress Center on April 26–27, 2025.

The opening ceremony was attended by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı; Deputy General Manager of Trabzon Shipyard İlyas Mürtezaoğlu; Dean of the Faculty of Marine Sciences Prof. Dr. Ali Muzaffer Feyzioğlu; Acting Trabzon Regional Port Director Ahmet Turgay Okur; representatives from the Turkish Shipbuilders' Association (GİSBİR); representatives from the Chamber of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (TMMOB); executives from shipyards and sector companies; academic staff; and a large number of students.

“Knowledge and Practice Must Be Together” 

Speaking at the opening ceremony, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı emphasized that the event would bring together knowledge and experience, the enthusiasm of youth, and the expertise of the industry. He emphasized KTU’s commitment to preparing students for life and the professional world by integrating theory with practice. Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı praised the students for taking initiative in organizing the event, highlighting their role in shaping the future, and wished them success.

In the program, Deputy General Manager of Trabzon Shipyard İlyas Mürtezaoğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Marine Sciences Prof. Dr. Ali Muzaffer Feyzioğlu, Head of the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Peşman, and President of the Marine Technologies Club Zeynep Sude Çankaya also delivered speeches, sharing valuable insights with students about education and the sector.

Students Found Answers to Their Questions

Following the opening speeches and plaque presentations, students had the opportunity to engage directly with leading industry figures. Throughout the event, which concluded on April 27, 2025, current developments in Naval Architecture, Marine Technologies, and Engineering were discussed, and students were able to ask all their questions directly to sector representatives.
