Our Rector Met with Students at the Faculty of Science Scientific Talks
The eighth session of the Faculty of Science Scientific Talks event series, organized by our university's Faculty of Science, took place at the Nazım Terzioğlu Amphitheater with great participation from students.
The program began with an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hakan YILMAZ, Dean of the Faculty of Science. Following this, KTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI met with university students through his presentation titled "University, Education, Society (Rector-Student Meetings)."
Break the Limits of Knowledge: Master History, Science, and Technology
In his presentation on University, Education, and Society, Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI addressed the impact of university education on individuals and society, the academic development paths students can follow, and future perspectives on education. Emphasizing that students should develop themselves not only in their own fields but also in different disciplines such as history, science, and technology, Prof. Dr. ÇUVALCI stated:
"Our goal is to equip you under better conditions and prepare you for life as individuals who question, are self-confident, and defend their rights and legal standings."
We Must Be Strong in Science and Technology
Highlighting the critical importance of being strong in science and technology for international competitiveness, Rector ÇUVALCI stated: "If you face a competitor with the most advanced technology, you must reach that level as well. To compete with contemporary countries, we must advance in fundamental sciences. Societies that master science and technology hold power, and we must also be influential in this field."
Discussing the support provided to students, Prof. Dr. ÇUVALCI emphasized the importance of learning languages and gaining international experience, saying: "Go abroad to gain experience and improve yourself, but do not stay there permanently. Your country invests in you, and you should repay this by contributing to production here."
Touching upon the efforts of students who work late into the night on campus and conduct research, Prof. Dr. ÇUVALCI saw this as evidence of Türkiye’s great potential in science and technology. Expressing his trust in students, he stated: "Difficulties will always exist, but they are temporary. The important thing is to advance through disciplined work in science and technology and contribute to our country's development."
During the question-and-answer session, students had the opportunity to interact directly with the Rector, ask their questions, and express their expectations.
At the end of the program, a special surprise was prepared for Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI. A short video showcasing photos from his student years was presented. Following this, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hakan YILMAZ, Dean of the Faculty of Science, presented the Rector with a special frame containing these photos. The event, filled with emotional moments, concluded with a group photo session.
