The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) organized the "21st Seismic Design Competition" held in Seattle, USA, between April 9-12, 2024. Representing our University, students from the Department of Civil Engineering who participated in the competition were awarded the Honorable Mention Award.

In the competition where the majority consisted of leading universities in the United States and a total of 40 universities from 10 different countries worldwide made it to the finals, our students representing our University from the Department of Civil Engineering received the Honorable Mention Award with their scientific studies presented to the jury. Students in the team are Houssein ALEÄ°T, Hasan SHÄ°RVANOV, and Ahmet Hakan YİĞİT, along with our student from the Department of Interior Architecture, Aykut Can ULUÅžAN,

Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, stated regarding the significant success of our students, "Our students who represented our University at the '21st Seismic Design Competition 2024' held in the USA, were awarded the Honorable Mention Award, which made us extremely proud. I sincerely congratulate our students and wish them continued success in their successful scientific studies."

During the preliminary application phase, the project proposal prepared by our students was selected as the top 3 projects to advance to the finals. The competition, which included design, analysis, manufacturing, shake tests, and oral presentations, was made possible for our students to participate by the sponsorship of DASK-Natural Disaster Insurance Institution, Trabzon Commodity Exchange, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serhat DEMÄ°R as the Team Consultant, and the Chamber of Civil Engineers Trabzon Branch for their support. We would like to appreciate their support and wish our students continued success.
