The project was executed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Temel SAÄžLAM from the Department of Art History and Research Assistant Edanur FETTAHOÄžLU from the Department of Interior Architecture, and a team of 10 academics.
The event was attended by Deputy Governor of Trabzon Dr. Ali YILMAZ, Mayor of Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Lawyer Ahmet Metin GENÇ, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, Deputy Mayor of Ortahisar Municipality Mustafa Özer İSKENDER, Dean of the Faculty of Letters Prof. Dr. Mehmet YAVUZ, Director of the Trabzon Martyr Meriç Alemdar Police Training Center İsmail AKINTÜRK, Trabzon Provincial Director of National Education Hasan UYGUN, representatives of relevant institutions and organizations, academics, administrative staff, press members, and many guests.
“Our Heritage Has Been Permanently Documented”
At the opening of the final project meeting, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı expressed great satisfaction in contributing to a significant initiative that digitally preserves the historical and cultural memory of Trabzon. He stated that through this project, historical buildings in the city center have been permanently documented in digital format. He emphasized that this cultural heritage is now secured in digital archives and thanked project executive Asst. Prof. Dr. Temel SaÄŸlam and the entire academic team for their efforts.
Congratulations to the Project Team
Following the Rector, Ortahisar Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özer İskender praised the university for its efforts, highlighting the importance of documenting the city's cultural heritage through such a comprehensive academic project.
“Highly Valuable for Trabzon”
Trabzon Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç noted that this project is of great significance for the city, which is renowned for its culture, art, and history. He emphasized the importance of preserving and passing on this legacy and congratulated the KTU team for their work.
“A More Effective Future with Digitalization”
During the presentation by Asst. Prof. Dr. Temel SaÄŸlam and Research Assistant Edanur FettahoÄŸlu, the project’s digital tools were introduced. Each historical building in central Trabzon was documented with a QR code containing detailed information and visuals. These were also placed on a digital “Catalog Map” with filters for period and function, marking their exact locations. This effort created a comprehensive digital inventory of the city's architectural heritage, ensuring it can be preserved and shared more effectively in the digital age.
The event concluded with closing remarks by Faculty of Letters Dean Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yavuz and a group photo.
